If you want to take a mountain bike trip at some imposingly landscapes, featuring mystic old monasteries and some outstanding trails, come and experience the Meteora – Velvedos tour. Ride through UNESCO’s heritage Orthodox Monasteries of Meteora, some of the most iconic traditional stone-built villages in Greece and forests that will blow your nature senses!
We will taste the authentic Greek cuisine and hospitality, the one that only locals can ensure. Alternative outdoor activities for adrenaline lovers, especially for water ski maniacs, who can try their abilities at the water tracks of Velvedos lake, a water ski centre for all level of skiers.

Arrive at SKG Airport - Transfer to Velvedos
The adventure begins at SKG Airport where your guide will be waiting for you to pick you up and transfer you to Velvedos. (Check transfer details at Trip Details section). Please do not forget to inform us by email about the details of your flight, at least 7 days prior to the arrival day, in order to schedule your pick up from SKG on time. After the arrival at the hotel, a first meeting will take place. You will meet your leader and guides and a tour briefing will be given to you accompanied by some traditional “meze” and welcome drinks – just a few since some serious all mountain biking is waiting for you the next days!

Hunters fount trail
First day starts with a good breakfast and right after we fix our bikes and verify all of our gear is in shape. Make sure you have double checked our bike kit list for this tour before traveling. After a short uplift with our Van we’ll start riding for 5km through pine-trees forest in order to approach the “Three Nations” single track. We will downhill this trail for a couple of times (with van uplifts) and after that we will be transferred in order to downhill one of the most fun all mountain trails in this region, the “Hunter’s Fount Trail”
We will end our first ride at the village of Palaiogratsano for tsipouro and souvlaki after a short visit at an old traditional watermill. In the afternoon we’ll head to a local vineyard to taste wine made by local grapes.
Ride distance: 25km to 30km
Alexis Zorbas Ride: Flabouro to Velvedos
After a healthy Mediterranean style breakfast, our van will drop us at the elementary school of Alexis Zorbas, located in Katafygi village. After a nice cup of Greek coffee, we will start pedalling through gravel roads for 11km till me reach ‘’Flabouro’’ peak at 2192m altitude. There we’ll have a quick stop to admire the stunning view and taste local mountain tea. Through the E4 European trail we’ll start riding downhill for 9km till we end up at the beautiful waterfalls of Skepasmenos for a cold bath. We will end up our ride at Velvedos village where we’re going to have a break for some local food. Since our break is over, we’ll hit the road once again till we arrive at Meteora.
Ride distance: 20km to 25km
Our first day in Meteora starts with a nice breakfast. Our Van will transfer us at Doupiani, the west entrance of Meteora. We will ride by and visit some of the most important Monasteries till we end up at the Great Meteora which is the Monastery at the highest altitude. Our route will be an ancient trail used secretly by the monks during the Othoman occupation. Afterwards we will start downhill the single trail and we will end our ride at Doupiani again.

Pertouli - Elati villages
Two of the most beautiful villages in Greece are today’s playground. After our breakfast we’ll head to Pertouli and Elati where our guides will provide you a mixture of all-mountain biking combined with sightseeing around this astonishing area. Afterwards we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch at Plastiras lake before we return to our hotel for a bit of rest. In the evening we’ll discover the local bars.

Back to Thessaloniki - Bonus Ride day
After breakfast we’ll head to the monasteries of Meteora, one of the largest and most precipitously built complex of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece. After a cup of Greek coffee, we’ll head back to Thessaloniki for a fun afternoon ride! We’ll dropped off by our van at Seih-Sou once again, but this time we’ll have shuttle runs to get the most out of our favorite single tracks. After ride we’ll head to the hotel and get ready for the grand tour of Thessaloniki by night!
Ride distance: 15km to 25km
Sadly, this is the end of your magnificent mountain biking holiday in Greece. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time to do some last-minute shopping in Thessaloniki before we transfer you to SKG Airport and say ‘’Till our paths meet again’’.
- You have been mountain biking regularly for at least one year
- You have reasonable bike handling skills, and are confident riding in a variety of terrains and conditions including: single track, double track, muddy, wet, dry, loose
- You are competent at riding undulating trails with moderate climbs and descents, some of which may be slightly technical in nature, but may get off and walk some sections
- You ride at least three to four times per month
- You have a reasonable level of fitness, exercising at least twice a week for 45 minutes or more, throughout the whole year
- You can ride for up to 5 hours per day at a moderate pace, with snack and photo stops, for 3 consecutive days
- You are capable of tackling one or two moderate climbs per day, of up to 400m
Preparation of your Bike

The ideal bike for this ΜΤΒ trip is a high quality full-suspension mountain bike with around 140mm of travel. Make sure, that your bike has been professionally and authorised serviced, including all suspensions and your equipment is in proper condition.
Accommodation – GBH
The majority of accommodation that we use on this mountain biking adventure, is mainly, family-owned lodges and small hotels. We have researched these areas extensively to select the most comfortable accommodation in the region and we have planned the itinerary accordingly.
We try to pick members of Greece Bike Hotels, an organisation that consults and develops accommodation units, as bike friendly hotels.
GBH ensures that its members-hotels have the facilities needed for bike travellers and their bikes, to provide the best quality services for them.
Food & Beverages
Here in Greece the food is almost a ritual matter. The areas we will ride at this MTB trip are famous for their quality traditional Cuisine and Vineyards.
Velvedos has some of the most famous vineyards at Greece and Meteora some of the best meat food. We will arrange dinners at cozy local restaurants and traditional taverns, for you.
After all you are in Greece, you have to spend some quality time to try Mediterranean flavours.
Arrival & Departure Details – Transfers
This tour starts and finishes at Thessaloniki Airport, SKG.
Your Guide and/or Driver will meet you at the exit of Arrival department of SKG, holding an Outline Adventures sign.
Since we will be traveling at Velvedos at arrival day, make sure that your inbound flight arrives before 18:00. If you are not able to find a flight that arrives on time make sure you arrive at Thessaloniki airport at least one day before.
In that case contact our Travel Concierge department to fix all details for your accommodation and itinerary.
If your inbound flight arrives more than 3 hours before 18:00 our Guide and/or Driver will meet you at the exit of Arrival department of SKG in order to pick you up and give you the chance to take a coffee break at the city of Thessaloniki before our departure to Velvedos. After your break, we will pick you up at a pre-arranged spot in order for our group to depart from Thessaloniki.
Do not forget to inform us by e-mail about the details of your flight, at least 7 days prior to your arrival day, in order to schedule your pick up from SKG on time.
SKG airport is well connected to many international destinations. Please let us know if you require any assistance with your flights.
On your departure date we will drop you off to SKG to catch your homeward flight.
