Lesvos is a Greek island located in the northeastern Aegean Sea, often called Mytilene in Greece, after its capital. It is the third largest island in Greece, separated from Turkey by the narrow Mytilini Strait.
Lesvos is also the name of a regional unit of the North Aegean region, within which Lesvos island is one of five governing islands. The others are Chios, Ikaria, Lemnos, and Samos.
The island is widely known as the home of the ancient Greek poet Sappho, from whose association with homosexuality the word lesbian derives its modern meaning.
The local mtb community here is so active, that they manage to put theirs destination at several calendars of mountain biking domestic and international races. The mild weather conditions during winter time at Lesvos, makes it a very suitable place to ride, when at the same time most of Europe is covered by snow.
